Benefit Sanctions
The Rethink Sanctions campaign continues to call for a full independent review of the unjust benefit sanctions regime. The Government's spending watchdog, the National Audit Office, has produced a highly critical report of the benefit sanctions system. Amongst many criticisms their report revealed that the government held onto and refused to share data showing that sanctioning sick and disabled people harms their ability to get and keep work over the long term. They are the latest in a long line of respected organisations to join the call for full independent review into the sanctions system.
Church Action on Poverty has provided an online facility to write to your MP about the benefit sanctions regime. To find the link on the Church Action on Poverty website click here.
UK Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia
The UK Government has rejected the recommendation of two Parliamentary Committees for an immediate suspension of arms sales to Saudi Arabia and for an independent UN-led investigation into the systemic targeting of civilians in Yemen. Our church leaders have written to the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson MP. Act now with your MP - The Joint Public Issues Team has drafted a proposed letter text for you to adapt and use.
